The Minnesota Vikings' single-season receiving yardage record was contentious last season as Justin Jefferson was only a few yards from passing Randy Moss's record of 1,632 yards, which he set in 2003. There were multiple opportunities for Jefferson to get the record, but former head coach Mike Zimmer didn't allow it to happen at the end of the year and he finished seven yards shy of the title.

On Christmas Eve against the New York Giants, Jefferson surpassed that record with a beautiful 25-yard blaze out on the Vikings' third drive.

Jefferson also passed Cris Carter's single-season reception record, which the Hall of Famer set in 1994 with 122 catches.

Carter acknowledged the passing of the torch moment with a post on Twitter.

"Congrats @JJettas2 on breaking the @Vikings single season receptions record," he said.

Jefferson finished with 12 receptions for 133 yards and a touchdown in the Vikings' 27-24 win where kicker Greg Joseph sealed the game with a 61-yard field goal.

He now has 123 catches and 1,756 yards on the season. He's only the 10th player in NFL history to have 1,700 receiving yards. If he garners 244 yards in the last two games of the season, he would be the first player ever to reach 2,000 yards receiving.
